Beebombs Sustainability Pledge
Fully Off-grid manufacturing -
Project disconnect.
Helping restore lost wildflower habitat is a messy process and we have a lot of fun doing it. We make Beebombs on a old stable yard at Parley Farm in Dorset and as we expand and in the face of an undeniable climate crisis, I’ve really started to think about how we can ensure that we continue to restore lost habitat in a way that doesn’t impact the earth negatively at all.
For 2022, we are working on making the Beebombs manufacturing process 100% off grid and sustainable.
This means disconnecting from the grid entirely and using only renewable energy sources for our power and heat. It also means collecting all the water we use on site. The project is major challenge but a worthy one and achievable in my view.
As you know, we already ensure no plastic is used in our packaging and no one use plastic is used on site at all.
Already, all water used in the manufacturing process is collected from the rain. Filtered and recycled into the Beebombs manufacturing process. Adding nutrients to help them germinate.
Furthermore, this year, we aim to add capacity to our water tanks and solar pump the filtered rain water into our piping system. Meaning all water on site will collected and reused.
We will be adding a composting toilet to save water within the next few months too, although not everyone is excited by that idea! It will help save a huge amount of water and the technology nowadays is remarkably efficient and clean.
Generating enough solar energy in the UK will be difficult but the process has begun. Storage options are improving all the time but we will need to look at wind, solar and potentially hydro to generate enough from the sources around us.
Our 2022 Sustainability Pledge
All water used at Beebombs will be collected and filtered on site. We aim to disconnect from the mains supply by October 2022.
All power used at Beebombs will be generated from renewable sources. We aim to disconnect from the mains grid in December 2022
Our prices will remain the same for 2022, we believe net zero can be achieved without price increases to the consumer.
I will update on this blog and Facebook as we make improvements and probably mess up too. It’ll be a fun journey either way and I’d love to hear from anyone with any tips or suggestions.
